The frontal lobe is the largest of the four cerebral lobes, situated at the front of the brain behind the forehead. It contains the prefrontal cortex, which orchestrates executive functions including working memory, cognitive flexibility, and impulse control. Broca's area in the left inferior frontal gyrus is essential for speech production. The primary motor cortex along the precentral gyrus generates voluntary movement. Damage to the frontal lobe can produce profound changes in personality and social behavior, as famously documented in the case of Phineas Gage.
