Thomas Willis described the cerebral arterial circle (Circle of Willis) in 1664 and coined the term 'neurology'. His 'Cerebri Anatome' was the most comprehensive brain anatomy text of its era, naming structures like the corpus striatum and distinguishing gray from white matter.
