Ramón y Cajal and Camillo Golgi shared the 1906 Nobel Prize for their work on the structure of the nervous system. Cajal's neuron doctrine — proving the nervous system is made of discrete cells — became the foundational principle of modern neuroscience, overturning the reticular theory.
