Broca's Area Discovery
Paul Broca identified the left frontal region essential for speech production.

In 1861, Paul Broca examined patient Leborgne ('Tan') who could understand language but not speak. Post-mortem examination revealed a lesion in the left inferior frontal gyrus — Broca's area. This was the first definitive localization of a specific mental function to a brain region, launching modern neuropsychology.
