Parietal Lobe
Integrates sensory information, spatial awareness, and mathematical reasoning.
© Blausen Medical Communications · CC-BY
The parietal lobe processes somatosensory information from the body, integrates multisensory data, and supports spatial cognition and navigation. The superior parietal lobule contributes to attention and eye movements, while the inferior parietal lobule is involved in language, mathematical thinking, and body schema. Mirror neurons discovered in the inferior parietal cortex fire both when performing and observing actions, providing a neural basis for imitation and empathy.
