The cerebellum contains more neurons than the rest of the brain combined. It fine-tunes motor commands, maintains balance and posture, and supports motor learning through error-correction signals. Recent research reveals cerebellar contributions to cognition, emotion, and language through connections with prefrontal and parietal cortices. Cerebellar damage produces ataxia — uncoordinated, staggering movement.
